To prevent the quagmire which typically covers the towpath through the SSSI in winter, we propose the laying of a plastic geo-block reinforcement mesh under its surface. We are working with both Natural England and British Waterways to find an acceptable solution from both a maintenance and environmental point of view. However, this could also be very expensive (£60,000 per mile) and a major fund-raising exercise is needed to support this aim.

Enable access
British Waterways no longer cuts the vegetation on the bank of the canal and, in summer, it is now very difficult to gain access to the canal, for either canoeing, fishing, or gaining a good view of the water. We want areas of the bank on the towpath side to be cut and maintained so that people can gain access to the water and, in a few places, install wooden landing stages.
